Half and Half

Outings in public with young kids are often half fun, half major embarrassment!
Take our Timponogos Cave outing yesterday.

It was BEAUTIFUL. I was very in love with the fall colors and the weather was perfect!

Hiking with the kids was great!

Once in the cave Andy started getting upset because he couldn't run around and get into everything....Which, if you know Andy, leads to screaming pretty rapidly. Embarrassing..

Can you guess what this is?
If you can then you've probably been in a cave with a little boy who drank a lot of water and then refused to use the outhouse near the mouth of the cave because it smelled really bad. I mean REFUSED to the point of tears....

Turns out if someone has to pee in the middle of the cave, they get this nifty little blue bag. Turns your pee into gel. Cool right?

We didn't know they had nifty blue pee bags, so Charlie leaked a little on himself before our tour guide realized he needed the bag. Which leads us to the dinner afterward. We stopped at Sizzler, where I spent 15 minutes in the parking lot persuading Charlie that no one inside would know he leaked a little on his pants...He was embarrassed, WE were all embarrassed.

Once inside the restaurant, all went well until Andy decided he was full. Again, if you know Andy once he is full he likes to throw all food and any other items he can reach on the ground. Sigh. I always tip big at restaurants now. :)

I'm still glad we went, it was fun, lovely, tiring and embarrassing all at the same time.
Life is kind of like that.

Sounds like a normal outing to me. And please tell Charlie that I think it's cool that his pee turned into gel or something like that. P.S. Did you keep it?

I specifically remember having to go pee while in the cave. All well. Sizzler sounds good right now. I am glad that you guys did that with your kids. Good job!

Wow, it looks so beautiful up there at this time of year. I bet if the boys knew they would get something cool like that, they would act like they need to go! It must happen all the time at the caves for them to have little bags for the kids. Funny!

At least be glad that your boy is modest and desires to be clean. Most boys I see are crude and don't care.
